At Sharpa, we manufacture time by making robots useful.

Founded in 2024, Sharpa is an AI robotics company inspired by the Sherpa people of the Himalayas - known for guiding and assisting alpinists on their difficult journey to the summit. We build general purpose robots that assist, not replace, humans - freeing people from repetitive and strenuous work so they can pursue inspiring endeavors.

Our team is made up of geeks and innovators with backgrounds at leading AI and robotics companies. We are dedicated to developing ultra-high performance, autonomous robotic systems capable of adapting to the complexity of real world environments. Sharpa operates out of Singapore, Shanghai and Mountain View.

What you'll be doing:

  • Develop multimodal robotic models that integrate vision, language, action, tactile, force, and other sensory modalities for robot perception, reasoning, and control.
  • Conduct research on agentic and self-improving robotic systems, enabling robots to reason about tasks and failures, autonomously collect and utilize experience, and continuously improve their skills and policies.
  • Explore cutting-edge research in vision-language-action (VLA) models, robot foundation models, imitation/reinforcement learning, generative policies, and embodied agents, and rapidly prototype and validate new ideas on real robotic platforms.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in embodied AI and robotics, and translate promising research ideas into working robotic systems.

What we're looking for:

  • Currently pursuing a Masterโ€™s or PhD degree, preferably in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Electronic Engineering, or related fields.
  • Strong background in robot learning, multimodal learning, computer vision, reinforcement learning, or embodied AI.
  • Familiarity with at least one of the following: VLA models, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, generative models, LLM/VLM agents, or robot foundation models.
  • Hands-on experience with real robotic systems, simulation environments, or large-scale robot datasets is a strong plus.
  • Proficient in Python and/or C++, with experience in ROS/ROS2 preferred.
  • Strong research and engineering ability, with enthusiasm for building general-purpose and continually improving intelligent robots.
